SMI Event

Parallel Trade

9-10 February 2015

Holiday Inn Regents Park Hotel, London, UK

Different regulatory regimes for pharmaceuticals result in significant differences in pharmaceutical prices across countries. These prices make it profitable for parallel trade to take place in addition to it reaching a significant proportion of total national pharmaceutical expenditure in many European countries. The issue of pharmaceutical parallel trade continues to generate controversy among stakeholders and has become an issue of intense debate in the global trading system.

Based on this, SMi is proud to be hosting the 9th annual – and leading European – Parallel Trade conference on 9-10 February 2015 in London. This event will focus on assessing pricing strategies and the impact of parallel trade on the generics market and vice versa.

 Benefits of Attending:

  • Hear from those at the heart of Parallel Trade on the core concerns affecting you. Addressing the challenges are Eric Noehrenberg, Janice Haigh and Richard Freudenberg
  • Germany are the industry leaders in this field, hear from IGES on Parallel Trade in Germanyand what the influencing factors are and analysing the market

    • Enhance supply chain protection and patient safetywith an update on the Falsified Medicines Directive

    • Case study sessions on best practices and implementation, in addition to three round table discussions will generate debate, don’t miss out!

Key Speakers Include:

– Antonio Mendonca Alves, CEO, MD Pharma SA
– Bertram Häussler, Chairman of the Board of Management, IGES Institut GmbH

Article Title: L-Proline Catalysed Domino Reactions for the Synthesis of Heterocycles

Author(s): Sethuraman Indumathi, Jose C. Menendez and Subbu Perumal

L-Proline is a cheap, water-soluble organocatalyst that is able to induce the synthesis of a large number of heterocyclic systems. This work is reviewed, with emphasis on the literature of the 2005-2011 period. The domino reactions have been classified according to the nature of the first step of their proposed mechanisms, as follows: (i) iminium-initiated domino mechanisms; (ii) enamineinitiated domino mechanisms; (iii) reactions proceeding via the intermediacy of dienamines; (iv) reactions in which proline acts as a Lewis base and (v) L-proline/metal catalysed reactions.

Author(s): Amit Kumar Gupta, Neetu Singh and Krishna Nand Singh

Affiliation: Department of Chemistry, Centre of Advanced Study, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-221005, India.

Impact of microwave radiation on organic chemistry has been assessed by workers time to time. This review covers selected recent examples form cross-coupling reactions, multicomponent reactions along with some cycloaddition reactions to reveal the impact of microwave on organic synthesis.

Medicinal Chemistry – Fusion of Traditional and Western Medicine, Second Edition

Medicinal Chemistry – Fusion of Traditional and Western Medicine is a textbook intended for students taking courses in the various fields of medicinal chemistry, pharmacy, medical and dental programs. Moreover, people working in the pharmaceutical industry and doctors preparing for Medical Board Exams will also find it useful. Since, new drugs are being developed by multi-disciplinary teams; this E-Book describes new paradigms that are emerging in modern biology, biochemistry and medicine. It is therefore a fusion of traditional and western medicine and between systems thinking and reductionist thinking. Readers will learn about how new drugs are investigated, developed and eventually approved by the FDA. The book also includes important information about cGMP, GLP and the FDA regulatory requirements, the importance of environmental toxins, such as bisphenol A (BPA) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOAA) in autoimmune diseases and health. This book offers exceptional value in its descriptions of RNA, epigenetics, toxicology, new drug development, genetically modified organisms and analytical chemistry that cannot be found in other textbooks.

Brain Stroke

A stroke is a “brain attack”. It can happen to anyone at any time. It occurs when blood flow to an area of brain is cut off. When this happens, brain cells are deprived of oxygen and begin to die. When brain cells die during a stroke, abilities controlled by that area of the brain such as memory and muscle control are lost.
