Men and Women are different in many ways. Some say that the differences are solely due to culture but some suggest that there are biological basis for many of these differences. There are also many stereotypes such as, women talk too much and men never listen.
Dr. Elliott Albers, director of the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience and Regents’ Professor of Neuroscience at Georgia State University, and graduate student Joseph I. Terranova with his research team revealed that the compound present in blood platelets known as serotonin (5-HT) and arginine-vasopressin (AVP) act in opposite ways in males and females effecting aggression and dominance.
It is noted that women comparatively face high depression and anxiety disorders whereas men tend to suffer from autism and attention deficit disorder more frequently. Despite gender differences in social behavior it is still unknown how the brain mechanism underlying these phenomena differ in females and males therefore the current treatment strategies are practically the same for both. Researchers conducted a study on hamsters and their data showed that both the compounds 5-HT and AVP act differently respective to the gender. These studies increased the chances that for PSTD 5-HT-targeted drugs may be more effective on women and AVP-targeted drugs for men.
