NATURAL PRODUCTS AND INFLAMMATION

Aims & Scope

Investigations on natural products have recently regained prominence with the increasing understanding
of their biological significance and increasing recognition of the origin and function of their structural
diversity. Medicinal plants have always represented a valuable source of new active compounds and of
potential lead compounds for the discovery of new drugs particularly as anti-inflammatory agents, as
evidenced by the structure of many active substances currently used in therapy. Many inflammation types
show resistance phenomena to drugs currently in use and in many cases the therapeutic strategy could be
improved, both in terms of effectiveness and reduction of side effects. At the same time, a great deal of
evidence supports the existence of an inverse correlation between the adherence to specific diets, based on
the consumption of fruits, vegetables, edible medicinal plants and the occurrence of various human
degenerative diseases.
The main focus of this special issue includes all aspects of natural products as anti-inflammatory agents.

Key words:
Natural compounds; Anti-inflammatory activity; Phytocomplex; Plants food
Subtopics:
Natural products from higher plants;
