Leukemic Children Require Absolute Dental Care!

Leukemia, more commonly known as blood cancer, is among the deadliest cancers that attack humans – adults and children alike. Oncologists are keen to take all possible measures to detect, measure the extent and devise means to destroy leukemic spread in the patient’s bodies. The means may include chemotherapy and also radiotherapy. In both treatments and all other remedial measures the patients have to take immense battering in order to rid themselves of the demonic disease. Adults may bear the pain but for children it can prove detrimental, to say the least. Children’s bodies are tender and less resistant compared to the adults.

According to the research paper, Oral and Dental Considerations in the Management of Leukemic Children, published in Applied Clinical Research, Clinical Trials and Regulatory Affairs sheds light on what possibly can happen post-treatment for leukemia if dental care is neglected for the child patients.

Teeth and gums of children are among the most sensitive areas that have a number of blood vessels concealed under soft skin. The treatments for cancer create certain situations conducive for other viruses, fungi and other attackers to prosper in the mouth of children and take advantage of their weakened state.

Hence dental care, alongside cancer therapies is a must for the children battling leukemia.
