“Metabolic Syndrome impact on molecular, and cellular functions in patients affected by heart failure: therapeutic, diagnostic and clinical applications”

Ametabolic Syndrome.jpg

In this Special Issue we would try to bring the two major diseases together by focusing on common molecular pathways, mechanisms and subsequently on clinical outcomes. We may speculate that, the identification of mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of MS and its CV complications may represent an area of significant research efforts, attracting scientists and clinicians from a diverse range of fields including biochemistry, pharmacology, internal medicine, cardiology and geriatrics among several others. Our Special Issue hypothesis is that, the final goal in the near future will be to find treatments better tailored to MS patients with HF using a personalized–medicine approach. Therefore, here we invite investigators to submit to this Special Issue both original research articles, clinical trials and reviews having the purpose to address novel diagnostic tools or new therapeutic treatments for MS and HF. “New Targets and strategies of Medical Treatments in neurological and neurodegenerative
disorders”

Current Pharmaceutical Design

The objective of this special issue is to give a vision of different pharmacological and nutritional strategies to develop new treatments for the prevention and cure of diseases that affect the central nervous system. Refractory epilepsy affects 20-30% of patients and constitutes a serious problem should be solved in the future knowing the cause of the loss of effectiveness of drugs. With reference to the other neurodegenerative diseases, it is evident that it is necessary to propose new strategies to solve the problem of cognitive loss in AD, for example, by stimulating the hippocampal insulin receptor, by inhibiting glial activity, or, by the development of new drug strategies through nanoparticles.

This thematic issue will gather information with and emphasis in new targets and strategies the potential therapeutic uses. Moreover, it will generate a forum for discussion of development of new pharmaceutical strategies (nanoparticles, etc) and effects, including the effect in different biological systems. Medicinal Plants and Mushrooms as Unfailing Source of Pharmacological Active Molecules for the Treatment and Supportive Therapy in Chronic Diseases and Conditions

This thematic issue will cover the effects of medicinal plants, mushrooms and isolated compounds from them on chronic diseases and conditions. The role of bioactive compounds from mushrooms in skin disorders will be described within this thematic issue, as well as the effects of plant extracts and isolated compounds in the treatment and prevention of chronic skin conditions. The inhibitory effects of medicinal plants and compounds on enzymes linked with chronic diseases therapy will be presented. Therapeutic potential of Lamiaceae plants in cardiovascular diseases will be covered, as well as plant products as antidiabetic agents. Anticancer activity of sesquiterpene lactones – compounds isolated from plants will be reviewed. Furthermore, medicinal plants and mushrooms as an alternative therapy for the treatment of chronic sinusitis and tonsillitis will be presented by the authors, as well as beneficial effects of fruits consumption in prevention and management of type 2 diabetes. For more details please visit: https://benthamscience.com/journal-files/special-issue-details/CMC-SII20181008-01.pdf

Systems Genetics of Alzheimer’s disease: From GWAS to
Disease Pathways

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common dementia and neurodegenerative disease in the elderly. AD is highly heritable and complex. In recent years, genetic studies especially genomewide association studies (GWAS) and next-generation sequencing have identified several AD risk variants and pathways associated with the potential pathogenesis and genetic mechanisms of AD. Until now, more than 20 risk loci that affect AD have been identified. These loci are estimated to explain about 28% of the heritability of liability, 30% of familial risk, and over 50% of sibling recurrence risk of developing AD. Despite these successes, the majority of genetic risk remains to be further identified. The identification of the causative variants or mutations remains challenging and the molecular mechanisms are still rarely characterized. In the post-genome era, the major challenge is to mine novel disease risks from multi-level omics data using system biology methods, which may expand our knowledge of the causes of AD. Therefore, we propose a Special Issue of the topic ‘Systems genetics of Alzheimer’s disease: From GWAS to disease
pathways’. This special issue will focus on the mechanism of genesis and development of AD, as well as valuable clues for the development of novel therapeutic approaches of AD. We believe the systems genetics will help us move from disease risk loci to disease aetiology. This Special Issue welcomes reviews and original papers covering recent genetic research on AD using system biology methods. For more details please visit: https://bit.ly/2M2i6mo

“REGENERATIVE MEDICINE AND TISSUE ENGINEERING”

Biomimetic scaffold which can mimic the native extracellular matrices have been developed by many research groups in order to improve the cell-scaffold interactions and to reach a new level of biocompatibility. These recent developments in the tissue construction area have lead to the idea that organ fabrication can be possible by using the available production techniques in combination with cells and growth factors to restore the function of an affected organ and even to increase the transplantation rate. Combining all those parameters together with the human body’s potential to heal in a proper environment, many products can be developed in order to diagnose and treat critical diseases from an early stage and to undertake the biggest crisis reported at the moment. The aim of this special issue is to present the latest updates in the field. For more details please visit: https://bit.ly/2LIe8PF
